FROM THE ASHES

From the Ashes
by
Mark Stanleigh Morris

"From the Ashes ...is about hope for the hopeless."

In this highly anticipated sequel to Mark's debut novel, Billy Goat Hill, brothers Wade and Luke Parker are brimming with a passion that flows from the deep well of their troubled pasts. Determined to offer their love and resources back to God, they partner with Pastor Jose Reyes, an ex-con and former gang leader, to establish a youth center in Northeast Los Angeles. Built on the burned-out site of their childhood memories, the center rises from the ashes to reach youth who are trapped in violence and despair. Unbeknownst to Wade and Luke, the father who cruelly abandoned them some forty-odd years ago is desperate to find them. But what for? And why now? Hope springs eternal in the hearts of the brothers and those they serve, but just beneath the surface of each new day a danger grows…one that threatens not only the center, but the very lives of those who run it.

The Story Behind the Book-

Like the characters depicted in From the Ashes, Mark Stanleigh Morris grew up in difficult and sometimes perilous circumstances. He was a kid from the inner city and the product of a broken home bereft of Christian teaching and influence. The trappings and temptations of the underground youth culture were powerful, and Mark fell for false hope, fleeting security, and counterfeit love. He did not know the Lord Jesus, but, “It’s only by God’s grace that I did not end up in prison or the morgue,” he says. In From the Ashes, Mark draws upon his experience as an “at risk” youth and pays respect—through the power of story—to those who helped him come to know forgiveness and the life-changing truth that is Christ Jesus.
